You notice it once stopped as it comes out of the grill. On closer inspection it looks like it's coming from the oil cap and dipstick when it's running. I replaced the modulator about a year ago, and the transmission shifts well when there is fluid in it. I am now having a problem of smoke coming from underneath the car. Web18 Aug 2016 · ATF Spitting out the vent or dipstick usually indicates a severely overheated transmission. You need to look into why the trans got so hot; Low engine coolant, inop cooling fans, plugged radiator, etc.. Excessive loading or pulling a trailer can cause this as well.
